A competition among secondary schools to install a sports ground that unites local communities and promotes an active and healthy lifestyle.

Context

According to a study by the British company ChildWise, 99.8% of European students aged 11 to 16 have cell phones, personal electronic gadgets, and constant access to the Internet. Therefore, children often spend their free time on social media and playing computer games. Instead of playing in the yard and developing physically, they sit in front of computer screens and TVs. This is compounded by the lack of sports infrastructure and the unpopularity of sports among children.

Mission

To promote children’s health and love for a healthy lifestyle by expanding the network of sports playgrounds in the context of limited access to sports activities for schoolchildren.

  • Participants

Ukrainian schools from different parts of Ukraine that are in relative safety and do not have places to play sports on their territory. A requirement is that the school has a shelter on or near its premises.

The project will be implemented in several stages.

After filling out the questionnaires, the team will randomly select 15 schools to install a sports ground on their territory. It is important that the school has a shelter.

    The second stage is the installation of sites. After the playgrounds are installed, the foundation’s team will visit each school and hold an opening ceremony. Together we will test the playground, and the most enthusiastic students will receive gifts.

 The first 10 sports grounds were opened, selected through a competition involving about 30 initiative groups.
 The Coca-Cola Foundation joins the program by providing grant support for the project. This created new opportunities for the initiative’s development.
 The number of applications for the installation of the sites reached 74. Public organizations from all over Ukraine have joined the project
 Expanding geography. Local governments, NGOs, foundations, and community assets from all over the country contribute to the project’s development. Each year, 12 sites were installed as a result of the competition.

The 100th site has been installed!

Secondary schools of different levels and regions of Ukraine got the opportunity to get a sports ground. The Klitschko Foundation received more than 700 applications! This confirmed the acute need for sports infrastructure among educational institutions. In 2013, 15 playgrounds were presented to schools.

In 2014, there were 20 winning schools from 20 regions of Ukraine. A sports ground was built on the territory of these schools so that children could play sports safely.

In 2015, there were also 20 winning schools from 20 regions of Ukraine. All sites were inaugurated with a sports festival for students.

We received 850 applications and selected 20 winners.

There were 10 sites with 3559 applications.

We received 22,883 applications for the installation of a sports ground, and 201 schools participated in the project. This was also the last year of the project.
